Walt Coker for Mayor of Hattiesburg Straight Talk. Bold Leadership.

My family was one of the first 100 families in Mississippi. They settled Bond, Mississippi. It is a big, country family. Pictured here are my son, a youth minister and baseball player, and my parents, lifelong Democrats.
This house, in a struggling neighborhood, was marked for demolition. I purchased it in 1992 and worked for ten years to renovate it and other surrounding properties.
In the kitchen, I'm best known for my easy chili and my sense of humor.

2 lbs. #4 ground sirloin (or sub half venison)
2 bell peppers, chopped
16 oz. ketchup
12 oz. water
2 packs McCormicks chili dry chili mix
16 oz. can diced tomatoes
2 tbsp. white vinegar
1 lg. chopped onion

Brown sirloin, peppers and onions. Add tomatoes and chili mix. Mix well. Mix ketchup, water and vinigar. Add to chili. Extra chili powder to taste. Simmer.
A friend had to convince me to reveal this pastime. It's very therapeutic.
