This is one example of my first-hand experience redeveloping blighted communities. The project was personal. This was known as one of the worst streets in Hattiesburg. A young man was shot to death in this courtyard. Now residents sit and chat in this quiet place. It's amazing what a little know-how, paint, and vigorous management can do.

Sometimes getting the job done requires a hands-on approach. Here I volunteered to pick up trash with many other good people at Red Truck Recycling.

Other candidates are running expensive campaigns with flashy campaign mailings and television ads and don't get out into the community. They are running for mayor. I am walking for it.
